Tighten your seat belts and don your cap and goggles. Your adventure begins as you climb aboard our 1940 open-cockpit WWII biplane. You soon find yourself drifting across West Virginia's beautiful rolling hills as we make our way toward the once booming town of Thurmond. Thurmond used to be the hub of activity during the coal mining hey day almost 100 years ago. It is now maintained as a historic landmark by the National Park Service.
Thurmond also serves as the starting point for many of the exciting whitewater rafting trips down the famous Grand Canyon of the East. From there we will follow the gentle curves of the mighty New River. You can pick out rafters and kayakers as they navigate such famous rapids as The Keeney Brothers and Double Z. Or maybe you are more interested in spotting the rock climbers or hikers enjoying the beautiful cliffs of Endless Wall or Beauty Mountain.
Just when you think things can't get any better we come around the bend and there it is,The New River Gorge Bridge. Standing 876 feet above the New River, it is a remarkable sight to behold. Fayette Station rapid lies below and one cannot help but appreciate the humbling display before you; extraordinary creations of both nature and man.
As we bank to the west, historic Fayetteville, with its landmark courthouse, comes into view. After your experience thus far, you may now begin to understand why Fayetteville was designated as one of the "Top 10 Coolest Small Towns in America" by a popular travel magazine.
